Cancer

Extra help for extra expenses

Important: No new Cancer Care policies are being written. If you have coverage and continue to select it each year, it remains in effect.

  • Cancer Care provides a lump-sum payment for the first diagnosis of internal cancer or malignant melanoma (but no other skin cancer).

  • You can use the cash to pay for treatment or for other non-medical expenses. It’s yours to use at your discretion.

  • The plan provides coverage in addition to any other insurance or medical plan you may have.

  • If your current coverage includes the intensive care benefit, you receive extra money for each day that you’re admitted into a hospital intensive care unit (ICU) for up to 30 days.

Claiming your benefits

If you or a covered member of your family is diagnosed with cancer:

  1. Call 800-880-8824 (toll-free).

  2. Follow the prompts to connect to the Claims Customer Service Center.

  3. A claims representative establishes your claim file and provides you with any required forms.

  4. The claims representative assists you throughout the claims process until your claim has been completed.

Benefits are paid to you immediately after the claim has been received and validated. All of the benefits due are paid to you unless you assign them elsewhere.

Taking it with you

Cancer Care policies are individual policies, so there is no need to convert them to continue coverage. If you want to continue coverage with Cancer Care after leaving the district, simply pay your premium directly to United Teacher Associates Insurance Company.
