What’s new for 2020

If you like your current plan, you can sign up for it again. However, remember—you must enroll to receive benefits for 2020. Your 2019 benefits will NOT roll over.

So what are the changes? Here are a few highlights:

Changes to voluntary benefits

We have 4 new voluntary benefits

  • Hospital Indemnity
  • Accident Insurance
  • Emergency Transport
  • Critical Illness
New Carriers

Some of our existing benefits will be handled by new carriers. Check with your current providers to make sure that they are in the new network.

  • Both dental plans (DHMO and PPO) will now be administered by Guardian
  • Vision will be through Avesis
  • Identity Protection Plan – InfoArmor
  • Disability - MetLife
  • Legal Plan - LegalShield
Health Reimbursement Account (HRA)

The District has made the decision to stop contributing into the HealthFund (HRA) beginning in 2019. In place of the HealthFund (HRA), the District is implementing the Premium Support Program. This program will assist in the lowering of monthly premiums for all staff participating in the 2019 Health Plan. Individuals who have a remaining HealthFund balance will be allowed access to those balances until they are exhausted.

Greater savings on health care expenses

This year, the IRS has increased the maximum amount that you can contribute to a health care flexible spending account (FSA) to $2,700. That means you can set aside even more money for medical expenses without paying income tax on it.

Aetna's new preferred lab

Effective January 1, 2019, LabCorp will be an additional preferred lab with Aetna. You will be able to choose from Quest Diagnostics, LabCorp or any of the hundreds of other labs in Aetna's network.

Before you get any lab work done in 2019, make sure to ask the right questions to your doctor or provider to save money. Click here for more information and tips on how you can pay a lot less when you use in-network labs.
